I have arbitrarily picked age groups as those younger than 40, or those born in America after 1960 or so, as being the ones who today are our biggest problem, because they are ignorant of American History. In my opinion they do not know much of anything about our nation. This is so important, as it therefore means that these empty heads are so easily filled with myths and propaganda, and especially when we are discussing the War for Southern Independence, Slavery, the Confederate (FLAGS) and such.
(Of course, this is a generalization, I am sure a dozen or two are exceptions to this)
Oh sure, most of this group can add without a calculator and make change for a dollar, and the older ones are aware of who we fought in WW-2, Korea and Vietnam, but likely do not know who the secretary of Defense is today, or who LBJ was, or what Nixon was accused of doing. The millennials likely know next to none of these or similar facts as an example. What happened in the Gulf Of Tonkin, what or who was Henry Kissinger, and what happened in Grenada concerning Noriega.
Who was the Yankee who made a ” March to the Sea ” and what war was the Battle of the Bulge fought in an who were the opponents. What was the Hindenburg, and what happened to it. Who created the Polio Vaccine, and what is Mount Rushmore famous for.????
My point is that today we have many who push Political Correctness, and who call the Confederate Battle flag a racist flag, but say this with no real knowledge of how slavery began, who used or owned the slaves in America and the rest of the world, and what did Lincoln really believe according to Lincoln, and what he himself publicly stated about slaves, and black people in America and his non interest in fighting to end slavery, or fighting to keep it, he preferred a means be found to ship blacks out of America to be resettled in another country, this is fact, not my opinion.
They do not know Robert Edward Lee, or Jonathan Jackson, a West Point graduate, Jackson a professor at the Virginia Military Institute before the war, who raised a Sunday school for black children of slaves and even sent money home during the war to assist them. Few know how decent and honest these two Southern gentlemen were. Robert E. Lee, a son of a Revolutionary War hero, also a graduate of West Point, a man who was as gentle as one can be, and a man who was offered the command of all U.S. ARMY forces by Abraham Lincoln, but Lee, a man of honor, and at a time that state sovereignty was paramount to citizens of the individual state’s as it was regarding Robert E. Lee and Virginia, and as he was well aware that war was coming, and Virginia would be a part of this war, his allegiance and honor must first be to the state of his birth. Jefferson Finis Davis, another graduate of West Point, A military officer who was successful in battles with the Indians and later with Mexico, a former U.S. Congressman, U.S. Senator, a Christian, and later the chosen president of The Confederate States of America. MOST MEN TODAY HAVE NO SUCH HONOR ABOUT ANYTHING OR ANYONE. Men today lie, cheat and steal for the most simple of reasons, not men like Jackson, Lee, Jefferson Davis, and many other Southern leaders. GOD, FAMILY, HONOR, and Duty and the love of their state.
Being ignorant of history is not against the law, but being ignorant, and arguing and protesting about some issue that you know nothing about or even what you stand for or against, nor why you take the position you take, is pretty dumb I think. And unfortunately many ten’s of thousands of Americans do this every day in America. They work at fast food jobs, deliver auto parts, or are unable to find work because of their lack of skill’s or having too many tattoos or piercings that replicate the most ignorant of the tribal nomads in many jungles and off beat places in the darkest parts of our 3rd world hellholes and lands. But while they have no clue on what American documented crime statistics clearly demonstrate concerning gun deaths, shootings, by blacks versus by whites, by police versus by non police, and other assaults with knives, sticks, bricks, ect. but they say they are clear that the police are at fault, and they are clear that it is a white versus black issue, and this is all decided without any facts to support their positions. So then many of these ignorant folks, take the positions against the police, and join forces with black lives matter, and other radical out of control mob like groups, and are then nothing less then the snakes who are depicted in the pied piper cartoons, following the piper, even if he leads them into a boiling pit of fire.
This is America 2016, and also many other regions of the world, the issues may differ, but the reactions of the idiots is the same, being led by the myth makers and liars, and they willingly follow them.
The incident in Ferguson , Mo. where a fat slob (Michael Brown) on pot, bullied a store clerk and stole merchandise, then walked down the middle of the busy city street, defying orders from a uniformed police officer to get out of the road, then attacking the policeman in his patrol car, then when confronted in the road, he charged the officer and was appropriately shot dead. The reaction from a NORMAL, LAW ABIDING, HONEST, DECENT, BLACK MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC, SHOULD HAVE BEEN, HE DESERVED WHAT HE GOT, Brown that is, but oh no. They rioted and burned the stores of innocent shop owners putting many out of business, stealing merchandise, throwing bricks, rocks at police officers and damaging property for days on end. IS THIS WHAT RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS DO, NO, IT IS NOT.
Then we had Baltimore, same story, criminal and police, which side do the Blacks and Black Lives matter side with, of course, the criminals, the rioters, looters arsonists and those guilty of assaulting the police officers.
FOLKS, THIS IS BACKWARDS, THIS IS EVIL, AND IF YOU AGREE WITH THEM, YOU TOO ARE EVIL.
Has their ever been any similar phenomenon in America, well the 60’s race mongers were similar, but they were not attacking the police and killing them in cold blood as these people are suggesting today. Blacks have followed many black leaders in similar ways, they are very susceptible to violence, more so than other races.. Today, Police officers are hunted down and shot as dog’s, and few, very few black preachers or leaders in congress, the senate, the courts, Hollywood actors, sports leaders, have all failed to condemn these actions and this is so terrible on the part of the Black community.
Yes, their once existed slavery, no arguing this, blacks were in slavery as were many Indians, and many whites around the world for 5,000 years before Columbus discovered North America. Blacks seemed to arrive in the 1600’s with the first colonist’s and as they were many who came as slaves, but some came as free blacks, it depended on the age old thing called money. Same for whites, many whites came as indentured slaves, having to work on clearing land, farming, and building structures to pay back debts owned to more wealth men who paid for their trip here and their subsistence until they were repaid with labor. This is America, this is the early American story. White men negotiated with Indians, and some disputes resulted in Indian deaths, and in White men,s deaths. Their were numerous insurrections between the two groups, and bloodshed.
Later in the 1700’s, more bloodshed, as Americans wanted to end the English Kings control of them, from taxes, church requirements and so on, and a Revolution ensued, and in the end a new nation was created, free from England, and a Constitution was created and various existing Colonial states were given an opportunity to join in. It was VOLUNTARY, and one by one we first got 13 states to form a Union. Later much more land across America was settled, and more states created and those states joined. The most recent and 50th. state to join was Hawaii, which joined the United States in 1959, nor very long ago.
So this process still goes on and we will have other new states come on board, I expect Puerto Rico to be the 51st. state and Guam the 52nd. over the next 15 years.
So, moving back to the 80 year period from end of Revolutionary wars end in 1781 or so right up until 1861, various states got angry with the Federal Government over many issues, mainly tariffs and taxes, and a number of Northern and Southern states threatened to secede from the Union, this was not simply a Southern notion.
Yes, but what about the U.S. Military students and officers at West Point Military Academy and past graduates in 1861. Well Duty, Honor and Country was not the motto there until about 1888 or so, but Duty was likely on their minds, but duty to whom, what was their duty. These were students and graduates and expected to make a career defending the U.S. this mattered, but no one had expected to ever raise a sword against any U.S. STATE, so this idea of making war against the Southern states changed everything.
Slavery had been in the North and South before Lincoln took office in 1861, but as the North was the more Industrialized part of the North- Eastern U.S. it required much less manual labor than did the agricultural Southern states, with thousands of acre farms and plantations to clear land, plant seed, cultivate and harvest the crops, and to take these crops to market, it took much manpower and slaves were that manpower. Now, I am not in favor of slavery, BUT YOU AND I WERE NOT IN EXISTENCE THEN, WE DO NOT FULLY APPRECIATE THE NORMS OF THAT DAY, GREAT AND HISTORICAL KINGS AND RULERS HAD SLAVES, PRESIDENTS AND GOVERNORS HAD SLAVES, SEA CAPTAINS AND CAPTAINS OF INDUSTRY ALL HAD SLAVES.
Now it is important to know that slaves were looked upon by many as property, like a horse or a cow, a part of the farm or industry they were a part of. In the South slaves were a part of the owners family. Oh, I do not mean in all cases they were loved like family, but in many cases they were, but they lived in dwellings built for them and by them, they ate vegetables, fruits, pork, beef, chicken that came from the very farms they lived and worked on, all of this was far better than any had in Africa where they lived in bamboo/thatch huts, very little farming, they lived in the wild as wild people. Many slaves were taught to read and write by white slave owners, attended family parties and gatherings on occasion, this was all documented in letters and hand me down accounts, it was not all bad, it was not all horse whippings as many wish for you to believe, but it was slavery and it did exist, and it existed before any Confederate flag. It also existed in the North, Massachusetts, New York and other Northern states all had slaves, BUT, as the North became the manufacturing center, with factories running from line shafts powered by water wheels, less labor was required, thus less slaves. Also the Northern businessmen quickly realized, why provide housing, food, and care, not only for the slave, but for his wife, all the kids and others, why not do as they were then doing when they hired a white man to work for them. Pay them for only the time they worked, no housing, no food, no family or kids, a much cheaper way to get help, so slavery as we think of it slowly left the North, not because Northerners were soft hearted folks, oh no, they were money hungry bastards for the most part and still are today. As time wen on, Northerners in their ” Holier than thou ” attitudes and demeanor , spoke about the South and the slaves quite often in the newspapers and such as their North – South differences simmered. As Lincoln campaigned for president, some wanted him to use slavery as a major part of his campaign, but he refused this in the first term, stating that He would not fight to keep slavery, and he would not fight to end slavery. What he did want was to change America, to make the Federal government larger, more powerful, and for it to be centralized and to squash states rights. This was opposite the ideas set forth by our founding fathers. As time went forth and the South complained about unfair treatment, especially the tariffs on goods going thru the Southern ports, much talk was heard about secession, especially when Lincoln was elected in 1860, this finally culminated in South Carolina seceding from the Union.
So far so good, but in 1861 Lincoln took office, and he needed a reason to stop secession, and a reason to have a quick military action that would help end states rights and to give excuse for more Federal control over the states, and Fort Sumter gave him his excuse. The people of South Carolina ordered out all Federal troops and took over all such property, and asked the U.S. FOR THE REASONABLE COST AS THEY WANTED TO PAY WHAT THEY OWED. They were forced to bombard Fort Sumter as the Yankees lied and violated an agreement not to man this place, but under the cover of darkness they did just that. Confederate troops after having given the Yankees a deadline to leave safely, opened fire on the fort, and the Yankees finally surrendered with no loss of life on either side as a result of the cannon fore.
Lincoln used this to mobilize an army, and to cross the Southern states to promote a war, he ignored all offers to negotiate a settlement, he wanted war, and he expected a quick win within 3 or 4 months. It took 4 long years, it took 600,000
deaths, and as Lincoln became desperate to win, he freed the slaves, his reasons were two fold, 1. To hopefully see the slaves attack their masters and cause much harm to the Southern people. 2. To enlist many of these blacks into the army as Northern states were giving Lincoln hell over his 4 month war still going on in 1863, 3 years beyond all expectations. His emancipation was not out of love or kindness for blacks, be sure you know this fact, BE SURE YOU GET THIS, AND GO LEARN OUR AMERICAN HISTORY ON YOUR OWN SO THAT YOU WILL SEE THAT I AM TELLING YOU THE TRUTH HERE.
Yes we had slavery, the Lincoln started a war, when a Confederate flag was created, a flag that flew for 4 years over the Confederacy, a part of America that had slaves, but know this, the American flag flew over a nation that had slavery for many years before 1860, it flew for 80 years from the end of the revolutionary war until the end of the War For Southern Independence ended in 1865.
So, before you take a position, know the facts, the Confederate flag is a flag of a group of Americans who were being attacked, invaded by Lincolns army, homes burned to the ground, valuables and property and personal items robbed and taken at gun point, women raped, and towns and cities destroyed, and hundreds of thousands killed, many murdered in cold blood. So, my Confederate flag flies every day, 24/7/365, and has for years and will until I die.
Get the facts, stop supporting lawlessness, stop attacking the Confederate flag, it represents the most honest and decent Americans who ever lived.
